Mt. Airy Tavern

Recently the fiance and I were looking for somewhere to go for the evening to get out of the house. Mt. Airy Tavern was somewhere that we had been talking about visiting that was close by so we opted to try them out.
The tavern is located in a strip mall right off the main drag. Upon entering we found the place completely decked out for Christmas, a plus for the two of us since it's one of our favorite holidays.
We arrived during happy hour but were disappointed to find that drink specials only apply in the bar with the exception of their crushes; I opted for a Creamsicle crush, Justin a Guiness.
Looking around the place, we surmised that we were the youngest clientele by far and were afraid the food was going to cater to a different crowd (no offense to anyone reading!). We started with the Sweet Corn and Crab Fritters, stuffed with fresh sweet corn and lump crab with a Cajun remoulade sauce and housemade corn salsa. These were pretty good. They had a fair amount of crab meat and fritters always taste really good with remoulade. I also love anything with crab meat so I didn't think I wasn't going to like these.

For an entree I chose the shrimp Caesar salad. Mt. Airy Tavern makes their own salad dressings and croutons. I have to say I wasn't that impressed with the salad. The dressing was okay. The salad was fine but not anything special.

Justin picked the Sesame Crusted Salmon Sandwich, a grilled salmon fillet with spinach, red onion, and chipotle aioli on a ciabatta roll, served with fries. It was very difficult to even see the salmon on the sandwich due to the amount of bread. Everything kept slipping off and Justin said the taste was just okay. He said it was lacking in the aioli and you couldn't really tell it was there.

Overall we were pretty disappointed with this place and don't think we'll be back. Our favorite pub/tavern in the Carroll/Frederick county areas remains Beck's in Sykesville. We need to go again soon so I can post a review!
