Woodberry Kitchen

Woodberry Kitchen has long been on my list of places to try and last Friday we finally got a chance to go. It's situated in an old factory building in Baltimore City off of Route 83 and you can choose to sit inside or outside on their eclectic patio. We opted for outside since it was such a nice night and were situated very close to their outdoor fire pit. Loved the smell from it!

This place specializes in farm to table ingredients and also serves a good selection of local wine, beer, and cider. We opted to try their signature cocktails. I had the Farmer's Daughter, made with organic vodka from Vermont, watermelon, cucumber, mint, and sugar and topped with a small watermelon wedge. I really enjoyed how refreshing this drink was. Justin had the True Lies, made with Colorado gin, absinthe, cucumber juice, sweet basil and served sparkling and topped with a cucumber slice that was pretty much a pickle. It tasted almost like pickle juice. He liked it but I don't know if it was something that he would order again.

For an appetizer we had what was very similar to a clams casino. I don't know the exact name because it's not listed on their menu on their website but that is a very close approximation. These were served in a small cast iron skillet on a bed of rock salt. They were tiny but really good! Woodberry serves them with their Snake Oil, aka hot sauce. I liked that it wasn't overly spicy and paired well with the clams, which were mixed with breadcrumbs, garlic, tomatoes and a few other things.

I chose the trout for my main course, served with leeks, sweet corn, new potatoes, and herbs such as dill. This was fantastic. I love love love fish and it was moist and the skin was a nice amount of crispy. I'm also obsessed with sweet corn and anything that resembles an onion like leeks. I cleaned my plate.

Justin had the steak, marinated in red wine and served with potatoes au gratin. It was a perfect medium rare and melt in your mouth. You also can't go wrong with potatoes au gratin, smothered in golden, bubbly cheese.

We had a great experience here and would definitely like to go back some time!
